09 DAYS EVEREST BASE CAMP EXCURSION
 
The Everest Base Camp from the Tibetan side can be reached from two points.
1. From Shegar
2. From Tingri west. Both these routes meet after some distance. However the first route is generally followed. The distance from Shegar to Rongphuk monastery takes about 6 to 7 hrs by driving while trekking takes 20 to 22 hrs. The complete distance from Shegar to Everest Base Camp is about 68.7 miles (110 km). On the first day it takes about 12 hrs to reach Pangla 17060 ft. (5200m) and then for other 2 days one has to move the valley. On the way there are some villages but food is not available.

Rongphuk monastery is situated at an altitude of 16500 ft (5030m) and at the highest point of the world. The trek passes through the valley of the Rongphuk river and gradually goes up with Everest occupying the southern top at the head of the valley. The ruined monastery was very sacred. The whole of this region was earlier full of wild mammals and birds.
Rongphuk monstery was badly destroyed by the villagers between 1965-1975 themselves during the revolution, as they were so much politically motivated that they themselves smashed it. In the valley

Day to Day Itinerary
Day - 01 Drive, Kathmandu to Nyalam (3750 m.): 7 hours
Early morning drive from Kathmandu to Nepal-Tibet border (Kodari) by private vehicle. After finishing immigration formalities both Nepal & China side, you will continue drive up the steep switch back road to Nyalam.
Overnight at Nyalam Guesthouse (dormitory room with common toilet)
Day - 02 Drive, Nyalam to Tingri (4350 m.): 5 hours
After breakfast, you will commence our journey to the further destination, Tingri. You will visit Milareppa cave (10 km further drive from Nyalam) on the way. This cave-monastery is located down side of the highway and it requires only a 10 minutes walk to reach there.From this point, your further journey to Tingri goes across the Tibetan plateau with Spectacular Mountain views from Lablung-La pass (5050m). Tingri is an old town from where you can see more views of the Mt. Everest and Mt. Cho-Oyu. Overnight at Snow Leopard Guesthouse (dormitory room with common toilet)
Day - 03 Drive, Tingri to Rongbuk village (4920 m.) – 4 hours
You are reaching to Mt. Everest Base Camp today, Rongbuk, where the highest Monastery in the world is established some 8 kms from Everest Base Camp. There are magnificent views up the valley of Mount Everest and Cho-Oyu which can be seen from the guest house. Overnight at Rongbuk Guesthouse (dormitory room with common toilet)
Day - 04 Rongbuk to Shigatse (3900 m.) – 8 hours
You will take a morning excursion to the Mt. Everest Base Camp. After breakfast, we set off for Shigatse, one of the historical towns of Tibet. On the way, we visit Sakya Monastery. Sakya Monastery is one of the largest Monasteries in Tibet for Sakyapa Sect of Buddhism.
In Shigatse we visit the Tashilungpu Monastery, the official Panchen Lama’s residence, built in 1447. Overnight at Hotel Everest Friendship or similar (twin-beds room with attached bath)
Day - 05

Drive, Shigatse to Gyantse (3950 m.): 3 hours
After visiting the Tashilungpu Monastery in Shigatse, it’s a short drive to Gyantse with its amazing sites – Khumbum, Palkor Chode Monastery and Gyantse Dzong.
Overnight at Hotel Zongsan (twin-beds room with attached bath)
Day - 06 Drive, Gyantse to Lhasa (3650 m.) via Yamdruk Tso Lake: 7 hours
The highlight of this day is the beautiful turquoise lake (Yamdruk Tso). After crossing the Kamba- La, Karo La and the Yarlung River (Brahmaputra), the journey ends in Lhasa. Overnight at Hotel Flora (twin-beds room with attached bath)
Day - 07 A full day guided sightseeing tour
Guided sightseeing tour of Lhasa – you will visit Jokhang temple, Barkhor Bazaar, Potala Palace and Norbulinkha Palace (the summer Palace of Dalai Lama).

Day - 08 GA full day guided sightseeing tour
Guide sightseeing tour of Lhasa – you will visit Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery and Tibetan medical center. Overnight at Hotel Flora (twin-beds room with attached bath)
